Was America Justified in Dropping The Atomic Bomb?

I think the United States was unjustified in the use of the atomic bomb on Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Targeting civilians is an unnecessary action, if you want to make a statement you could just bomb their military positions. The atomic bomb killed about the same amount of people (short term) as the conventional bombs dropped on cities, a carpet bombing would’ve been more effective. INNOCENT Japanese people were killed in the bombings, approximately 90,000 – 140,000 were killed in Hiroshima alone, the bomb on Nagasaki killed and additional 60,000 – 80,000 (150,000 – 220,000 total). Japan was also prepared to surrender on ONE condition, a condition that ended up being given to them anyway (keeping the emperor) making bombing them into an unconditional surrender a fruitless task. In conclusion, the United States abused their access to weapons of mass destruction.

However, Canada isn’t exactly innocent either. Canada supplied “Project Manhattan” with the critical resource uranium used for the atomic bombs.
