Was the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki justified?

I believe that the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were not justified because the atomic bomb that had been dropped on both cities had killed many innocent civilians, approximately 210,000 children, men, and women who most likely had nothing to do with the war, whereas fewer Japanese military soldiers were killed that day. We can’t forget that the bomb costed $200 million just to show racial superiority over a country that was already about to surrender under one condition; that they get to maintain their emperor which the U.S government disallowed until the end of the war, when Japan had surrendered shortly after the second bomb landed on Nagasaki. I understand that the Japanese military were vicious towards the Chinese, invading them and raping their women and all, while taking Hong Kong from the British soldiers and treating the British captive soldiers like dirt at the POW camps, but the bombs didn’t justify why more Japanese civilians were killed than actual Japanese soldiers. Whether or not these civilians were trained militian supporters for the Japanese empire or not, it was not right because innocent children were as killed that day.

The following points state why the bombings in Hiroshima and Nagasaki were not justified:

1. Dropping the atomic bombs on Japan sacrificed too many innocent lives. The fact that the U.S government would attack innocent civilians on an enormous scale, due to the fact that American soldiers were killed, is ridiculous. Constituents should not be harmed for the work of their government, no matter where they live. This showed that the Americans think that their lives are more precious than those of other nations, which is very tragic. The after-effects lasted for decades, and the action of dropping atomic bombs on huge Japanese cities was inexcusable.

2.”Never do revenge”. I’m sure a lot of people have heard this sentence before. Yes, I believe the Japanese were in-human, but some did not even want to start the war! Many commoners lived in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and *they* wanted peace. *They* wanted everyone to stop…but they had no say! It has indeed ended WW2. But the many people in Hiroshima and Nagasaki suffered because of the destruction and the radiation from the bombs. It wasn’t the Japanese’s fault that the majority of the British was not well- trained and were cowards in the fight in Singapore.

3.There were over 200,000 Japanese deaths. The Japanese were going to give up soon.most of the military officials didn’t support their leader. The Japanese just didn’t want to agree to an unconditional surrnder. If we hadn’t been so hard headed, there would have been a more powerful resolve.

How was Canada involved in the bombings of Hiroshima and  Nagasaki? When the Allies needed uranium, they looked towards Canada, where they had a uranium refinery located in Port Hope, Ontario. Much of the uranium came from mines on the shores of Great Bear Lake in the Northwest Territories, and the heavy water used in the development of the plutonium bomb (Fat Man) was supplied by the Consolidated Mining and Smelting Co. in Trail, British Columbia. Canada’s role in the development of the atomic bomb extended well beyond supplying raw materials. Canada provided a safe working environment, far from the battlefields, for British scientists working on the Manhattan project. Also, Canadian scientists played a crucial role in the project from it’s beginning. They discovered uranium 235 (the basic element of the atom bomb), helped to create the first chain reaction using uranium 235, and discovered how to purify uranium 235.

By knowing what role Canada played in the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, people will better understand what kind of a country Canada truly was in the past and that its not as peaceful or innocent of a country as many may think it is. The Americans were the ones to blame when the bomb was dropped, but what most people don’t realize is that Canada supplied America with the uranium which needed in order to create the two bombs that were dropped. There was only one uranium refinery which could make the nuclear warheads, and they were located in Port Hope, Ontario, which is in Canada.
