Was it worth it…?

I believe that the dropping of the Atomic Bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was justified because; 1) The three bombs were expensive costing almost $20,000,000 for the whole Manhattan project. 2) The Japanese were known for breaking their word in truces and treaties. and 3) Dropping the bombs forced the Japanese into submission and deterred the USSR from war with the USA.

First of all, $2,000,000 is a lot of money for the Americans people at that time ($27,169,333.33 today…). The American people wanted action and something for their money. The government knew this and needed to do something with the bombs. A show of power to the other countries would get the job done but it would not appeal to the people of America; blood called out for blood.  After the bombing of Pearl Harbour, they had to prove that they were the big boys.

Next, the Japanese were known at that time for breaking their word on treaties and promises so the American Government was reluctant on trusting them to uphold to the terms. The Americans were afraid of a sneak attack on Washington by air strike, they knew the capabilities of the Japanese aircraft and if they got a carrier to Pearl Harbour or managed to take it, they were in trouble. They wanted to remove Japan’s capabilities to make war for quite a while to come.

Lastly, with showing the world that they had these WMD’s (Weapons of Mass Destruction) or the “Nukes”  Proved just how much power the USA had, or at least they made a bluff and the world believed them. Doing so, spending those 2 bombs gave the whole world a double take at the USA, nobody knew at the time that they had none left. All they knew was that 2 major cities in Japan got levelled by ONE bomb, not the 200 some odd that they would normally need and fleets of bombers, all they needed was one bomber that could come in, possibly without being seen and with very little to no notice. This was a very scary thing for the would to stomach. Especially the USSR, as their #1 enemy at that moment.

So, again I believe that the dropping of the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki were justified because they cost a lot of money, the Japanese were untrustworthy and they wanted to show the world that they had teeth.

(P.S. Personally I do not agree with that but I just played the devil’s advocate here)
