Vimy Ridge

The battle of vimy ridge was very to Canada’s identity because it proved Canada had a viable army and skillful war planning. Also it shown that Canada can complete on a global stage and shown there worth to the British empire. There effort in the battle also got them an invitation to the  prestigious  call of duty tournement. The battle of vimy ridge was also important to Canada identity because  it helped them be less of a part of the British colony and not becoming a member of the commonwealth. on this day on April 9th 1917 is finished the battle which 10,600 solders were found dead and the rest 3,600 survived. Also vimy ridge marked the first time in Canadian history that all four Canadian divisions  fought together. this battle is also significant because it was a huge turning point for the war because the war only lasted on for nine more months even though it was excepted to last at least three to four more years. four Canadians were awarded Victoria cross and the entire contingent was commended for their bravery. Other nations might celebrate flamboyant valor or dogged sacrifice, Canadians built on the conviction that only thorough preparation could spell success. Sir Arthur Currie had a big affect on the success of winning the battle by forcing German to send German solders to battle which depleted fast so the back end of the battle would be very easy.The battle of vimy ridge also helped Canada because it got them onto the world stage and after the battle they were more involved in trading and helped the development of Canada. so in my opinion the reasons it is significant to Canada is because it proved we had a viable army and can compete on the global stage,show our worth to the Britain empire, it was a turning point in the war, and helped Canada in trading after the war.
