Describing My Collage
For my collage I wanted to make it really stand out. On the right side of my Collage, I have famously known actors, musicians, artists and the prime minister. I also added some stereotypes such as the famously known “eh” and as photo of beer, beavers and moose. I wanted the right side of my collage to really bring out what Canadian is known for and viewed upon within society. More specifically, how the world views us. I picked these images specifically because they screamed “stereotype” or “Canadian”.
For the left side of my collage, I wanted to represent what Canada meant to me. I picked pictures of my favourite, famous Canadian bands such as nickelback, Rush and Three days grace. I also wanted to add our iconic Tim Hortons because it holds significance to Canada in my eyes, and many others within our country. Lastly, I picked photos i have taken of the landforms and scenery you can find in canada. Such as a beautiful night sky, a snowy beach and niagara falls. I wanted this side of my collage to represent what Canada truly means to me, and my family. I want everyone else to know that we are much more than our stereotypes.
Similarities and Differences In How People View Canada
Canada is known for a lot of things. Our syrup, our alcohol and our love for Hockey. Most of the things listed are stereotypes, but sometimes, stereotypes can be true. A true stereotype, and similarity for how others and ourselves view our country is that we get very wound up for Hockey. Not all of us like it, but a lot of our population likes to watch hockey and get pumped up for it. Another similarity between the world’s vies and our view on ourselves is the fact that we love our Tim Horton’s coffee and tea. Canadians on a daily basis visit the nearest cafe to buy themselves a hot beverage, even I find myself buying at least two cups a day, if not more.
Though there are a few similarities between how we view ourselves and how the world views us, there is always differences to counter it. One of the many things the world views us for is our famously know “Eh” after every sentence. The truth is, we don’t all say “eh”! Some people don’t say it at all, while others may say it a few times while talking. The world things it’s funny that us Canadians say “eh” a lot, but the truth is, we do not. Another difference between how the world sees us and how we see ourselves is our love for our alcohol. I know a few adults who do like alcohol, but they never drink Canadian alcohol. Which supports my point, a lot of us do not like our own alcohol, and honestly, we don’t drink as much as people think.
Where Do I See Myself In The Canadian Story?
I see myself as just an average girl living in a very peaceful nation. My collage represents how I see the country I live in, versus how the world sees my home. I really wanted to represent the fact that we are a country of diversion and equality, which is why I added the massive rainbow maple leaf in the center, with a peace sign, to show we are peace keepers. I want the world to know that Canada isn’t just a country full of “hosers” who live in igloos. We have houses, just like the rest of the world, and we certainly do not just sit here on our butts all day drinking and saying “eh”. We have so many outstanding actors that were born in Canada. Our education here is why we are known for so many great things. I see myself as a girl who wants to change the views on Canada. I want the world to know the powerful nation we really are. This is why I made a collage, to represent how our country really is.
