The most significant event in Canadian history in my opinion was most definitely the battle of Vimy Ridge. Many say that this successful battle was the birth of our nation. The fact that Canada had took vimy ridge in less than a day was amazing considering France and Britain had spent a long time trying.
The battle started in April 1917 in Northern France. Canada had the disadvantage in this battle, since the ridge was on a slope, they were on the bottom of the ridge while Germany was on the top. This gave Germany an advantage because they were able to look down on Canadian soldiers and see what they were doing. Lots of planning and practicing went into this battle on the Canadian end. They spent a long time perfecting all their new strategies, on of them being the creeping barrage. To use it, they had to practice perfect timing. This helped them defeat Germany. They started this battle in the early morning and didn’t expect to be finished before sundown. The pride that Canadians felt after winning this battle was unbelievable and it is the most significant battle in Canadian history.
After the war, us Canadians still feel extremely proud of our quick success at Vimy. The Vimy Ridge monument is an extremely popular tourist attraction for Canadians to visit and when they do, they feel even more proud.
