Canadian Identity – Collage Reflection

I separated my collage into three sections; my mother’s background, my father’s background, and symbols that represent Canada. My mother’s side of the family’s is Scottish so to represent that i drew a Scottish flag, a long with stereotypical images such as a pair of bagpipes, four Scottish people wearing kilts, and two glasses of beer. I used stereotypical images so it would be clear as to what part of my background is. Im sure not all Scottish people wear kilts, play the bagpipes, amd are heavy drunks, but it makes it easier to identify. My father’s side of the family are Native Indians and grew up on the reserve. The images i drew to represent this are a dream catcher, because as a kid I remember having a lot of them around my house. I drew a bow and arrow and a feather headdress because when people think of Native Indians they typically think of the stereotype. I also just simply wrote the word “Cayuga” because that is the name of my tribe. In the middle of collage i drew stereotypical images that represent Canada such as Niagara Falls, Tim Hortons, a hockey and lacrosse stick, poutine, maple syrup, Canadian coins, and of course the Canadian Flag.
