In the letter assignment we learned how different groups viewed different things, one of these things was conscription. Conscription was a big deal during the war. It lead to the starting of a woman’s right to vote. You could only vote if you were a woman with a son or husband in the army going to war. They put this “rule” because they knew women with family at war would be more in favour of conscription. The government only did this because after the first world war less people wanted to sign up and fight for their country because they were scared, so they asked families of the soldiers if they thought it was fair that their loved ones went out and fought and others didn’t. Having more people meant that they were more likely to win and the English canadians were all for that because they were helping britain, but the French canadians didn’t really want to be forced into helping a country they were not in favour for just because they were allied with britain. Conscription has caused a lot of riots among the two groups but either way it has caused a lot of fear and death within Canada.
