Canada 150: Vimy Ridge
I believe that the Batter of Vimy Ridge was the most significance in Canadian History because Canada was the one to take the Ridge as the French and British tried and did not go through. It was on Easter Sunday of Monday, April 9, 1917 when all four divisions of 15000 Canadian soldiers had taken the ridge that had proven to be a impossible target for our allies to attain. The Batter only took a few days to take the ridge. The Canadian soldiers took a lot of Careful planing to take the ridge by taking Ariel photos of the ridge to map it out to see where they would build deep tunnels and begin digging the Canadian trenches all the way underneath the Germans trenches. Our soldiers went through a lot of training to take the Ridge. As the Canadian troops were told they could do anything to take the ridge. The big advanced behind creeping barrage was that the Canadian would fire so many feet away in front of them and the Germans would fire and could not see them and it somewhat keep them safe as we still lost a lot men in the battlefield. As the troops were take the ridge they had to suffer through the wind-driven snow and sleet into the face. By the end of the batter, Canadian suffered 10,602 casualties: 3,598 killed and 7,004 wounded. The German Sixth Army suffered an unknown number of casualties with approximately 4,000 men becoming prisoners of war. It was the most celebrated in the Canadian Military as a Victory and as the the Birth of the Nation.
This is why I think that Vimy Ridge was the Most important in Canadian History
