Canada’s 150th

I believe the most significant event in Canadian history is the battle for Vimy Ridge in 1917, this battle was a very important one for Canada and our allies, and without the Canadians Vimy Ridge would likely be held by the German soldiers, which would make defeating he Germans very difficult throughout the rest of the world war as obtaining Vimy Ridge provided our troops with a geographical advantage of having the high ground allowing our troops to press forward into German territory and push them back. Canadians were also the only military force to succeed in taking the ridge, the British and French soldiers alike failed to obtain the ridge and wasted many troops fighting for it. The Canadian military came up with a plan to take the ridge, and because of their resilience and quick thinking they managed to take the Ridge, as the Germans had the high ground and a durastic advantage against the Canadian military. During this battle the Canadians also used the iconic, chlorine gas immunity of placing urinated cloths over their mouths neutralizing it, and then continuing to push forward. Our other allies were not as quick to think of this however and suffered the effects of chlorine brutally. This proved to the world that Canada is not just a British state and is its own country, and deserves the recognition as one, the Canadians pulled through when nobody else could’ve, and without our place in the battle of Vimy Ridge the war could have potentially went into the Germans favour.
